Relationships Matter! Using relationship and versatility models in order to close more gifts and develop stronger strategic alliances with both internal and external stakeholders

Why do some rapport building techniques work with some prospects and not others? Why are you finding your new colleague (or boss!) so frustrating at times? The key is versatility - the ability to read and adapt to your prospect or colleague's natural behavior or "style".

Janssen-MichelleJoin Michelle Janssen, a new ALDE Ohio Chapter member and winner of the 2011 Virgil Anderson award, in a focused training session designed to build awareness and competency in the area of relationship or "style" models. A seasoned traveler in the quest to hone her own versatility, Janssen will bring time-tested techniques and perspectives to what will be a hands-on and practical workshop.

Michelle Janssen is the Vice President for Alumni and College Relations at Berea College. She was appointed to this position in July 2011 after serving as Executive Director of Development for Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., where she designed and directed a $200 million comprehensive campaign that raised $238 million. In her new role, she is responsible for alumni engagement, development and public relations and marketing efforts at Berea.

Janssen holds a B.A. degree from Valparaiso University and did graduate work in public administration/nonprofit management at Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Ore. She has been continuously certified as a CFRE since 1994.

A sought-after speaker, Michelle specializes in major gift solicitation training for professional staff and volunteer boards. She developed and co-taught a highly rated course in nonprofit ethics in the graduate division at Washington University in St. Louis.
