Using Students to IGNITE Alumni Engagement

Jeremy Wells

Mid Level

Alumni Engagement is something all colleges and universities desire and strive for, but REAL engagement is difficult, time-consuming and often costly. Project IGNITE (Involving Graduates Now In Thoughtful Engagement) is a pilot project at Augsburg College, focused on achieving greater alumni engagement, including all of the benefits that come with that engagement. The project, however, rather than using professional staff, utilizes one of the greatest resources any college or university possesses ... its students. Come and learn about this unique program, how it was conceptualized and how it may also benefit your organization or institution.

Secrets of Transformational Donors

Scott Lumpkin

Mid/Senior Level

Transformational gifts are often made by individuals who have a deep commitment to philanthropy and rely on a team of advisors to identify the best ways to maximize their present and future impact on favorite charities. This presentation focuses on the story of an actual couple whose 20-year relationship with two charitable organizations produced a multi-million dollar philanthropic legacy. Special emphasis is placed on the vital role of a closely coordinated team of advisors, including charitable gift planners, accountants, trust officers and attorneys.

Evaluating Your Campaign: So much more than just meeting the goal

Ann Sponberg Peterson, Keith Christensen, Jeanie Lovell

Senior Level

Very few organizations ever take the time and opportunity to fully evaluate their campaigns upon completion – and there is so much to learn from your donors, constituents, campaign leadership, team members and systems! Luther College development staff will present a candid look at their campaign evaluation process: what they learned, how they learned it and how it informed the process and goal setting for their next initiative. No degree in statistics needed – just a thorough examination and an open willingness to ask some hard questions, assess the feedback and share the results with leadership and decision makers.

Schools as Mission(al) Outposts

Lynn Henry

ALSS

The first Lutheran schools were built in outpost locations in newly-settled areas, and the landscape has certainly changed since 19th century Lutheran immigrants established schools for their children. Today Lutheran Christian schools are challenged to be outposts in a very different way. How can Lutheran schools respond to the “new” Christianity that the Millennials and their children are seeking? How do schools become relevant while remaining true to their theological roots? In this session participants will learn of the experience of Lutheran schools in one upper Midwest metro area; will be introduced to a rubric that separates “mission-minded” schools from those that are “missional” and will be challenged to apply these ideas to their own situations.
