2006 Compensation Survey

Executive Summary

Executives in nonprofit organizations will find the 2006 Compensation Survey of ALDE a useful tool for evaluating their own organization’s compensation package. The survey report includes information that has been gathered nationwide in the United States and Canada. It also provides regional breakdowns by state and province

Much focus has been given in recent years to equity in compensation packages for men and women. The 2006 data indicates that there is still a significant gender gap in compensation, despite a narrowing in that gap since 2004. Detailed information on both age and gender is provided.

Development work can be broken into a number of specialties. The 2006 survey provides breakdowns by job category, making the information especially useful to an organization with a large development staff.

Recognizing the wide variety of organizations served by development professionals, information is analyzed by organizational type and also church affiliation. This information will be especially helpful to those seeking detailed information on compensation packages for similar types of organizations.

Organizational budget size is often reflected in compensation packages. The report provides analyses by budget size and a number of other factors that will allow executives to compare their organizations to others similar in budget size and other ways.

Organizations offer a broad range of benefits. The types of benefits offered are reported along with the percentages of organizations offering these specific benefits. This information will be especially useful for evaluating the benefit portion compensation packages,

Finally, the report includes comparisons with the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The survey instrument is included for those who seek additional information.

The 2006 Compensation Survey Report
