Assessment Services

Offering Advancement & Development Support to Nonprofits and Churches

ALDE created the Organizational Readiness Assessment Services (ORAS) Task Force to help provide advancement/development support to smaller Christian nonprofits and congregations.

What groups will the ORAS Task Force support?
Both ALDE members and non-ALDE members and their organizations from across the country can receive assistance from veteran ALDE members who provide support and expertise.

What services will ORAS provide?
ORAS will use various assessment tools in order to define the advancement/development needs of each group.

ORAS Documents

Following are some initial questions that can be used to determine if an organization is ready to begin an organized fundraising effort.

What do you want to raise money for and why?

What is the organizational structure of your program/project group?

Are you or do you plan to be a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)3 status?

Do you have any of the following written documents: mission statement, vision statement, guiding principles/values statement, articles of incorporation or by-laws?

Do you have a written program or project plan (also called strategic or business plan)?

Do you have a budget?

Do you have the infrastructure to be able to accept donations?

After analyzing the assessment of the group, ORAS may provide consultation and guidance in the following areas:

  • Fundraising assessment
  • Strategic planning consultation
  • Board development strategy
  • Volunteer development
  • Consultant referral information

ORAS volunteers do not provide consulting services for groups, but rather assess a group’s individual challenge in a given area and provide support and expert analysis based on each volunteer’s experience. The volunteers provide general analysis on given challenges facing an organization or church.

How will ORAS provide services?
In most instances, ALDE’s staff will provide referrals for groups seeking help to ALDE volunteers who have agreed to be part of the ORAS team. ALDE will do the initial screening of the request and will contact the appropriate ORAS volunteer for a match. The match with the group could be as simple as geographic location of the referral or a match may be based on the expertise of the ORAS volunteer.

A simple phone call or teleconference by the ORAS volunteer will determine the next step.

What follow-up will be done?
Both ALDE and the ORAS volunteer will do a follow-up with the group requesting support to see if we met their needs and if any additional help is needed.

How do I contact the ORAS Task Force?
If you believe the ORAS Task Force can help your organization, call us at (888) 630-ALDE, ext. 2, or email
phyllisw@alde.org for initial screening.
We look forward to working with you!
