At the beginning all campaigns need momentum, and insiders can provide the spark to ignite a campaign and provide energy to see it through to conclusion. We will explore conducting an insider campaign in science and practice, drawing on the experiences of two campaign veterans who have used insiders to ignite a campaign. We will emphasize how to use your key constituents to test and refine the case for support; to create momentum - both in dollars raised and participation and to signal that the organization's key constituencies are on board, igniting them to endorse the campaign.
After this session you will be:
- Prepared to determine if an insider phase is relevant to your organization and campaign plan
- Able to identify key constituents in your organization to include in an insiders campaign
- Able to outline potential tactics for conducting an insider campaign
- Prepared to develop a plan for conducting an insider campaign for your organization
Mark L. Hill, CFRE,
is Vice President for Advancement at Concordia University, St. Paul. Hill joined Concordia in April 2012 as Director of Development, coming from Valparaiso University, where he served for nine years in major gifts. Prior to Valparaiso, Hill's 25-year development career has included being Director of Current Giving at Concordia University, St. Paul, and Director of Resource Development at St. Croix Lutheran High School. He has held continuous CFRE certification since 1997 and has earned an M.A. and a B.S. from the University of Minnesota. He has served on the ALDE Board of Directors, the Northstar Chapter board and on several ALDE committees, currently chairing the biennial ALDE Compensation Study.
Philip G. Schumacher, ACFRE, CFRE, is the retired Executive Director of Gundersen Medical Foundation. The Foundation is responsible for the medical and health education; clinical and basic research and community outreach of Gundersen Health System. Gundersen has been a Children's Miracle Network Hospital since 1986. In addition to his leadership role, Schumacher has extensive experience with major and planned gifts. Phil held his position from May 1993 to
Schumacher is the Immediate Past Chair of CFRE International and has served on the organization's executive; expansion and marketing and exam committees. He has held the CFRE credential since 1993 and was awarded the ACFRE in 2009. Schumacher is active with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). He served two terms on the board of AFP and is the past Vice Chair of Member Services and Treasurer of the Association. He taught in the Master of Philanthropy and Development program at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. He also is a member of the board of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and chairs its development committee. He has been in the field of philanthropy for 30 years.
